  AND TODAY IS ANOTHER DAY

Okay, I'll just say this one bit, and be done with it. CNN:

A stoic Michael Jackson walked out of court acquitted by jurors who said they didn't have enough evidence to convict him of molestation charges that could have sent him to prison for years. . .
So, now that the doves of innocence have all been released, we can get back to the important issues -- such as this:

Paris Hilton plans to give up public life for family life. . .
God, no! How will we manage to muster up the strength to go on afterwards?

Now this is intriguing:

Celebrity hairdresser in fracas over dead seagull
That's honestly one sentence I never thought I'd see -- ever.

Question: If you like the BBC's "Doctor Who", what are you doing on the internet?!!:

. . . the identity of Doctor Who’s nemesis, code-named “Bad Wolf”, is about to be revealed. . .

. . . The corporation has gone to extreme lengths to protect the ending of the season finale. It commissioned fake scripts, filmed alternative endings and even produced a website full of clues and misinformation, badwolf.org.uk, to suggest various endings.

Yesterday, though, preview tapes were released to reviewers, prompting fears that “spoilers” might end up on the internet. The BBC told fans on its main website: “Publicity pictures will appear tomorrow, and there’s a screening for the press on Wednesday, so stuff will leak out. Our best advice to you — STAY OFF THE INTERNET THIS WEEK!”. . .
However, if you don't care, or are in the States and didn't even know there is another "Doctor Who" series, and as a consequence don't care either, you may of course proceed around the net as usual.

Relatedly, a secret order is gaining a little too much influence at the heart of government, according to the Guardian (of course):

Variously described as the Brotherhood, the Firm, or the Jesuits of capitalism, the global consultancy firm McKinsey likes to maintain an aura of secrecy around its work. . .

. . . Yesterday the Guardian revealed that David Bennett, a former partner at McKinsey, who has been hired by Tony Blair to head Downing Street's policy unit, will have a key role in deciding the appointment of the new £220,000-a-year cabinet secretary. . .
We await next week's Guardian "investigation" of how "Doctor's Who's" "Bad Wolf" was a McKinsey man.

What's this, the BBC reporting a war crime, and the victims are allies?:

England put Aussies to the sword
More hyperbole, thank goodness. It was just a cricket match. But if you missed it, you missed something special -- it would have made anyone a cricket fan . . .

. . . especially if you were backing England.

I can't believe that I actually saw THIS -- for I had never watched the program before:

Media watchdog Ofcom has questioned the BBC's decision to screen an episode of The Vicar of Dibley on Christmas Day that showed its heroine getting drunk.

In the show Dawn French's character, Geraldine Granger, forgot midnight mass and fell out of her pulpit.

Ofcom received 66 complaints about the show and called the decision for it to be shown on 25 December "questionable". . .
It was silly, yes. And it was a bit "on the line". But it was hardly anywhere near close to what might be termed a "mishandling" of the holiday; Christmas is a happy occasion, after all.

Christians are actually allowed to have a sense of humor -- that in contrast to too many members of another global faith, who possess none, and demand that no one else possess one either. So you "66" complainers should just learn to lighten up and discover yours. Hey, why not leave Ofcom alone and start a blog?

©? Copyright? Well, myself, I guess. But there is nothing too dramatic here. I was born in 1965. I've got graduate degrees in political science and in history, and I've taught in an American university. More importantly, I like music, books, travel, and find skiing a bit of a challenge -- however, as my wife LOVES to ski (and can ski very well!), of course I LOVE to ski, too. ;-) And, overall, I'm probably a lot like yourself: Nobody special, just someone who looks at what's reported and too often thinks, "Hmm . . . that doesn't sound quite right." And then I bash a keyboard.

EMAIL REQUEST: This writer sure as heck doesn't know everything -- unlike the BBC's Jeremy Bowen, who obviously does -- so disagreement is expected. Well-expressed alternative views and interpretations are more than welcome, for that's how we all learn more in this life. But email is for contact primarily. So please phrase all abuse politely, and place it in the comments. Signed, The Management.

"Do not let us be hair splitters. Let us not ask ourselves whether the Americas should begin to defend themselves after the first attack, or the fifth attack, or the tenth attack, or the twentieth attack. The time for active defense is now." (President Franklin Roosevelt, radio address . . . September 11, 1941.)
