POSTAL BALLOT WORRIES

The "problem" was not identified. However, she joked that maybe the "problem" was me, living in the same house with her -- that as an imperialist American, the electoral authorities probably feel I would either steal her ballot and vote as her, or demand she vote for my choice of candidate.

There are new fears of election fraud, with a survey revealing that applications for postal votes have gone up by as much as five times in marginal constituencies, compared to the General Election in 2001.Apparently, aside from many British troops serving in Iraq, the only one unable to secure a postal ballot has been my wife. She had applied but was turned down for this election, because there was "a problem with her record on the electoral roll".
The increase comes in the wake of postal voting fraud scandals in Birmingham and Blackburn involving Labour Party members.
The survey, by The Times, found that applications overall had almost trebled since 2001. . .
