FEAR FACTOR
1045 PM: I'd been having some chuckles over preparing for a Kerry win. I posted as well something more serious on another election that was held nearly 90 years ago. Then we got comfortable and tuned into re-runs of "Friends" and then "Frasier".
Now, I've come back a little over an hour later to see what's going on, and in my clicking around, I'm stunned. (I will not watch a minute of the BBC's appalling coverage, and I won't watch FOX either -- at least not yet, because I sense there is "fear" in the air and don't want to catch it and ruin a good night's sleep.) A few unrepresentative exit polls, and, geez, suddenly the august Senator Kerry is in the White House?
People, get a grip. Let the election play itself out, and smile a bit. In the end, the American people as a whole are now making the ultimate call on the war that was launched against us on September 11, 2001 -- whether we are to fight on to win, or if we are to pack it in and (in suitably "nuanced fashion," of course) accept defeat.
So, I'm off to bed. By the morning, I presume we will see that the president will have been re-elected . . . or we will discover that we are to have a new president come January. Or the lawyers will have started seeking injunctions. Or some combination of the three.
. . . And we still have to go to work tomorrow.
