The two vice-presidential candidates in next month's US election have clashed on Iraq and other security issues in a televised debate. And, as the Beeb concludes:
Republican incumbent Dick Cheney said invading Iraq was "exactly the right thing to do".
Democratic challenger John Edwards accused the administration of "not being straight" with the US people.
The contest is seen as crucial after the perceived win of Democrat John Kerry in the first debate last week. . .
. . .The latest opinion poll by CBS News and the New York Times put Mr Kerry and Mr Bush equal with 47% support each.1) The BBC quotes a CBS/NYT poll. Ummm, can we stop laughing yet? And, 2) you gotta hand it to the BBC: Cheney and Edwards debate, but the BBC chooses to spend a third of its ostensible piece on that debate on the "winner" of last Thursday's presidential debate being John Kerry.
The findings showed a five-point boost for Mr Kerry after the first debate and erased a month-long Republican lead.
In three key areas for voters - protecting the US from terrorism, ability to handle an international crisis, and having strong qualities of leadership - Mr Bush still led Mr Kerry.
But Mr Kerry increased his standing in all three areas after the debate, the survey indicated.
If I ever need to sue somebody, I’ll call John Edwards.
If I ever need somebody killed - like, you know, terrorists trying to kill me or my family - I’ll call Dick Cheney.

©? Copyright? Well, myself, I guess. But there is nothing too dramatic here. I was born in 1965. I've got graduate degrees in political science and in history, and I've taught in an American university. More importantly, I like music, books, travel, and find skiing a bit of a challenge -- however, as my wife LOVES to ski (and can ski very well!), of course I LOVE to ski, too. ;-) And, overall, I'm probably a lot like yourself: Nobody special, just someone who looks at what's reported and too often thinks, "Hmm . . . that doesn't sound quite right." And then I bash a keyboard.
